2006 Census: Statistical tables (aggregate data)

The following types of statistics are produced by Statistics Canada for the 2006 census:

Population and Dwelling Counts

The Census 2006 Population and Dwelling Counts tables show the distribution of population and dwellings in Canada by various geographic areas: Canada (CAN), provinces/territories (PR), Economic regions (ERs), Census divisions (CDs), Census consolidated subdivisions (CCSs), Census subdivisions (CSDs) – Municipalities, Designated places (DPLs), Federal electoral districts (FEDs) - 2003 Representation Order, Census metropolitan areas (CMAs) and census agglomerations (CAs), Census tracts (CTs), Dissemination Areas (DAs), Dissemination Blocks (DBs), Forward sortation areas (FSAs), Urban areas (UAs), Urban areas and rural areas (UARAs), Statistical area classification (SAC). Data are also provided for land area and population density. Geographic boundaries are those in effect on January 1, 2006.

Population and dwelling count tables are available in odesi (CSV format).

Profile Files

The Census 2006 Profile Series presents statistical overviews of regions, presenting most census variables for the following levels of geography: Canada, Province and Territory, Federal Electoral District (FED) (2003 Representation Order), Census Metropolitan Area/Census Agglomeration (CMA/CA), Census Division/Census Subdivision (CD/CSD) and Census Tract (CT). Variables include: Age and sex, Marital status, Common-law status, Families, Dwellings and households, Language, Mobility and migration, Immigration, Citizenship, Ethnic origin and visible minorites, Aboriginal peoples, Labour market activity, Occupation, Industry, Place of work and mode of transportation, Language of work, Education, Income and earnings and Shelter costs. Cumulative Profiles contain all census variables by single geographic level.

Topic-Based Tabulations

This series of cross-tabulations presents a portrait of Canada based on the various census topics. They range in complexity and are available for various levels of geography. Content varies from a simple overview of the country, to more complex cross-tabulations and include current and previous census data.

Special Interest Profiles

This product presents data for specific census topics and population groups according to selected demographic, cultural, and socio-economic characteristics. These detailed 'profile-type' tables expand the analytical depth of basic census information. Special interest profiles include: Ethnic groups; Aboriginal peoples; Occupation; Industry; Place of work.

Custom Tabulations

These tables were purchased by the Map & Data Library to address data needs among the U of T community. These tables were then made available to the public, per the Statistics Canada open license agreement
