Workshop Description:
- What: Building upon the Introduction to Using MAXQDA for Qualitative Data Analysis: Part 1 workshop, learn to use some of MAXQDA’s analysis and visualization tools, and how to work with document variables.
- Why: Learning qualitative data analysis skills and tools will help you organize and participate in qualitative research projects, gain insights into your data, communicate your findings, and stand out in the job market. If you want to explore an excellent alternative to NVivo, you will want to check this tool out!
- Software: You will be able to use MAXQDA in the Robarts Library 4th floor computer lab (by October 2025), you can obtain a free, 14-day trial for it, or purchase a copy for yourself. See our guide to getting MAXQDA for more details.
- Who: This workshop is designed for those new to MAXQDA’s analysis and visualization tools, and its document variables features, but assumes basic knowledge of using MAXQDA to load in data and work with codes. This prior knowledge can be obtained by first taking the Introduction to Using MAXQDA for Qualitative Data Analysis: Part 1 workshop. Skills gained in this workshop can help participants working with qualitative data from any discipline: Humanities, Social Sciences, or Sciences. There are no prerequisites or assumptions of knowledge of statistics or programming.

How: This is a 1.5-hour workshop, consisting of a short lecture and then a series of demonstrations, which you can follow along with or just watch, interspersed with self-paced activities. There are no breaks.
