ITU World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators database

The database is part of the World Telecommunication/ICT Indicators (WTI) family of products, along with the Yearbook of Statistics and the World Telecommunication/ICT Development Report (WTDR). It uses the latest version of the World Bank’s *STARS* data retrieval system, Win*STARS version 5.0. The data content has been expanded this year and offers some new indicators and a wider range of years. Grouped under five headings – demography, economy, telecommunications, broadcasting and Information Technology – the data provide a comprehensive statistical picture of telecommunication/ICT development. The database contains more than 100 time series indicators covering the years 1960, 1965, 1970 and annually from 1975 to 2007, where data are available. It also contains country tables containing data for 1998 to 2007. Definition and source notes are linked to each indicator. Some quick reference tables are also included. The data are collected from an annual questionnaire sent out by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of ITU. Additional data are obtained from reports provided by telecommunication ministries, regulators and operators and from ITU staff reports. In some cases, estimates are made by ITU staff; these are noted in the database.
