Infographics are a type of data visualization that involves a mix of text and images to tell a story. This combination of text and visuals is so powerful because it helps to convey messages effectively and allow people to comprehend them, and retain and recall them better, all by taking advantage of Dual Coding Theory

The Map & Data Library has been partnering with a couple classes over the years to support and showcase student infographic assignments. It started in 2019 with a collaboration between Professor Sarah Peirce and her students from GGR308 - "Canadian Arctic and Subarctic Environments." In the last academic year, it has grown to include a new class, HMB453 - "AIDS: A Global Perspective," and Professor Haley Zubyk.

Our data visualization guide has an inspiration section, featuring the showcases from over the years. The latest addition is from HMB453's students in the Spring 2025 term.
