Vital statistics

Lists the various surveillance programs undertaken by PHAC, with links to data sources where available.

The CHMD gathers all required data (deaths counts, births counts, population size, exposure-to-risk, death rates) to compute life tables for Canada, its provinces and its territories. The data goes as far back as 1921.

Links to a series of annual reports containing the most recently available health indicators data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information and Statistics Canada. These reports are in PDF or html format (the latter with links to CANSIM tables).

This resource provides access to the 1944 through 2000 County and City Data Books. This service provides the opportunity to create custom printouts and/or customized data subsets (subsets only available for 1988-2000).

The State and Local Area Web site allows online access to the data provided by the Statistical Abstract supplement publications, State and Metropolitan Area Data Book (SMADB) and County and City Data Book (CCDB).

Annual reports that present detailed vital statistics data, including natality, mortality, marriage and divorce. These reports are available for download (PDF) or as bound volumes in many large public and university libraries.

Links to country statistical yearbooks or similar collections (census, "facts and figures," etc.) for 143 countries worldwide.

Links to international and national web-based data sources. Developed to provide links to contextual data for the European social survey.
