Although the Map & Data Library is physically closed, we are still available remotely and happy to help. We can conduct consultations using online teleconferencing software. Please feel free to contact us at mdl@library.utoronto.ca or use our help form. We have a number of tutorials available, are still supplying software licenses, and have compiled a list of resources for working with COVID-19 data.

Please note that our computer lab is also accessible for use through remote access. See this link for more information.

Balance of payments statistics (BOPS)

The Balance of Payments provides a framework that is applicable for a range of economies, from the smallest and least developed economies to the more advanced and complex economies. As a result, it is recognized that some items may not be relevant in all cases. The balance of payments is a statistical statement that summarizes transactions between residents and nonresidents during a period. It consists of the goods and services account, the primary income account, the secondary income account, the capital account, and the financial account.

Zanran numerical data search

Zanran helps you to find ‘semi-structured’ data on the web. This is the numerical data that people have presented as graphs and tables and charts. For example, the data could be a graph in a PDF report, or a table in an Excel spreadsheet, or a barchart shown as an image in an HTML page. This huge amount of information can be difficult to find using conventional search engines, which are focused primarily on finding text rather than graphs, tables and bar charts. Put more simply: Zanran is Google for data.

World public opinion

The WorldPublicOpinion.org website provides information and analysis about public opinion on international policy issues from around the world. While the studies of the WorldPublicOpinion.org network figure prominently, the website draws together data from a wide variety of sources from around the world. Many of the studies featured on the site have datasets available in the Digital Repository of the University of Maryland.

WHO: Malaria

The WHO malaria website provides a range of international statistics and reports. Most notable among these is the annual World Malaria Report, which summarizes information from 106 malaria-endemic countries and analyzes prevention and control measures. NationMaster

Contains international statistics on large list of topics (agriculture, crime, currency, demography, economy, education, etc.). This site is a compilation of international statistics from a wide range of governmental and non-governmental organizations. The site is compiled and maintained by a team of interested individuals, not by the data collectors directly. It is an excellent way to discover international data sources - consult the sources list at the bottom of each page to access the data from the official source.
